Travelogue: Fort Worth Super Bowl Edition

With the upcoming Super Bowl, the buzz and feeling in town is electric.

My mom visited last weekend, and we made our way to Fort Worth for the first time.  ESPN had taken over Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth.

News crews were filming establishment shots all over town.

We got our fill of tourism at the Stock Yards.  

There was Billy Bob's of Urban Cowboy fame (a little bit before my time but still I had seen a few scenes here and there), streets filled with antique shops-if you are still into decorating with antlers, this is the place to go.

Of course, just as one would envision, there were cowboy hats, boots, horses, and country music.

I may have even spotted a real cowboy.

I ran through a maze that was featured in the Amazing Race (a lot harder than it looks!)  And I can check riding a mechanical bull off my bucket list.

Have a great Super Bowl weekend!  I know mine will be filled with excitement here in Dallas!

P.S.  Hard to believe that we woke up to the ground covered with snow multiple times this week after the beautiful weather over the weekend.

Super Easy DIY

Last weekend, I spotted this ZGallerie frame on sale for $9.99 and thought it would make a perfect tray for our second bathroom (aka my husband's bathroom).  Later, when I flipped through Rue for another time, I saw that this ZGallerie frame was actually highlighted on the Earth Meets Sky Feature (p. 24).

I switched out the paper that comes in the frame (the quatrefoil paper could also be used as is), removed the stand, and added a fabric swatch I happened to have lying around.  This Kelly Wearstler's Bengal Bazaar complemented the other colors currently in the bathroom.  And voila a new bathroom tray.

Then, the first issue of High Gloss debuted featuring Jamie Meares who owns the shop, Furbish Studio, and writes the blog I Suwannee (p. 56).  She was asked what her favorite shop item is and listed these laminated trays made out of fabrics:  

Since they are such popular and beautiful fabrics, it's probably not that much of a coincidence that I used the same fabric as one of the Furbish Studio trays, and had considered using the Windsor Smith fabric (3rd pictured) in a different colorway.

High Gloss

This past week has been a visual feast- between the new issues of online digital magazines that quickly won our hearts from the moment we clicked past the cover page- to the new glossy premiere issues of what will certainly be new favorites.  The premiere issue of High Gloss is no exception.  

Besides the above interior images, I especially enjoyed their emphasis on fashion.  (Note: those Hicks pendant lights keep appearing, practically taunting me to purchase them.)

Their travel feature was on Napa, and I was fascinated with their take on a location I recently visited (see here).  It definitely enticed me to go back to see the amazing shops, wineries, and restaurants I missed.

Count me in as a loyal reader!

Singapore: Ahead of the Trend

I stand corrected, Singapore.  A couple of months ago, I pointed out that most design trends appeared to be universal based on a Singapore design magazine I picked up on a recent vacation.  Well most of them, that is, except for plywood.

But according to Lonny, plywood really is bringing sexy back (see here), as a nod to the old classics, like Eames and Saarinen.  Lonny's jumping off point for the reference is MOMA's current exhibition on plywood.  I'm sure those names will be popping up quite a few times too at Modernism Week in Palm Springs, which I am very excited to be attending this month.
