House Tour: Master Bathroom

You have seen it in progress but here it is--our Master Bathroom:

I have been enjoying the luxury that is our walk in shower:

And here you can see our bathtub with the finished mosaic tile piece that we had bullnosed to complete the look:

We also added hardware to the cabinets:

Summer Arboretum

One of my best friends came to visit me (and Dallas) for the first time over Labor Day weekend.  We decided to venture to the Arboretum.  Previously, I had only been in Spring (see here) but was pleasantly surprised to see that there were still flowers that weathered the intense summer heat.  Our favorite sight: the flowering canopy of trees that only displayed green leaves in the Spring:

Design Star

HGTV informed me that Design Star is holding auditions in Austin September 9 for their next season.  While this is not my cup of tea, I prefer to watch reality shows instead of participate in them and in this case, have proclaimed my trepidation with DIY projects-- I would love to see some more talent next season.  Maybe the limitations in how challenges can be executed contribute to this lackluster season and don't allow the contestants to shine, but it didn't seem to be the case last season, which I enjoyed so much better.  Maybe all of you Texans in the area can show them something better during these try-outs!

Working Girl

After a hiatus, I am back to work today starting a new job.  It's time to bring out the work clothes and of course that means my signature DVF wrap dress!

Guatemalan Sun God

I purchased what I think is a Guatemalan antiquity when I was in Chichicastenango in March of this year:

I wanted to mount it on a base similar to these Vicente Wolf examples:

In Wolf's book, Lifting the Curtain on Design, he speaks of finding objects and having them mounted on a base by a vendor at the Bangkok Sunday Market.  I would love to have access to that resource but since I don't see a trip to Bangkok in my near future, short of making one myself I have never found a source to make one for me at a reasonable price.

Then, I saw these examples that seem much more manageable to pull off.

Either mount the piece on a plain lucite base:

Or on a wood or steel base:

I think I may finally be able to take on this project.

Society Social Bar Carts

The bar cart craze has hit!  But never have there been more fashionable bar cart options than with the debut of Society Social's new line.  They recently launched a magazine (magalog) to showcase their new bar cart/furniture line and shortly thereafter made them available for purchase online.  I was waiting to see what the price point would be and was pleasantly surprised.  There are so many options and colors to choose from it would be so hard to pick a favorite:
You can find the bar carts online here.
